2008 Roadster iPod Cable Installation

Photos showing the disassembly required to run a new iPod cable in the 2008 Tesla Roadster. The original JVC unit runs one cable to a collection of devices stored in a polystyrene insert at the bottom of the area behind the left dash/console piece. From there, the iPod support module runs a custom iPod cable under the driver side carpet and into the bottom of the lower center console piece. Replacing that cable requires removing the left console pieces, the driver's seat and the entire center console.

When running the cable up, be sure to route it so that it doesn't interfere with the foam seal around the inside of the upper portion of the left console piece. This photo shows the black cable coming in from the dashboard segment, drooping down in front of the foam, then traveling down the left side of that piece. You can also see the colored cable that runs in front of the lip, which it must in order to connect to the touch screen module. It's really important to run the iPod cable up and around that piece, like the black cable (minus the drooping), unless you want to redo one end of the cable when you get to putting the left console parts back together. (Grrrr.)
